Been a while......

Yep, it has been ages since I have been on here. Summer is just so busy; breeding and moulting penguins at work and then all kinds of fun things to do after work, like the Queen Vic night markets, sunset concerts at Fitzroy Gardens, the tennis, the cricket, art exhibitions.... and of course the stinking hot 43 degree days when all you can do is lie on the couch in front of the fan, or hide out in the air conditioning at Borders.
Doesn't leave much time for blogging.

Last week I went to an exhibition at the NGV, it was hyperrealist sculptures by Ron Mueck and it was amazing! They let you take photos of everything, but sadly I forgot my camera, so I borrowed this one to show you how great his work is:

I have also been reading this cookbook that my lovely sister gave me for Christmas. After the art gallery visit last Sunday I tried my first recipe; Carbonnades A La Flamande (Beef and Onions Braised in Beer) and it was delicious!
This weekend has been quiet and relaxing. Apart from a trip to the movies yesterday to see Fantastic Mr Fox (which is the best movie I have seen in ages) I haven't done much at all.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

Oh Meredith....

I just had the best weekend at Meredith. Three days of music, camping and fun people. Some of my highlights included Sia, Why?Patrick Wolf and Paul Kelly. The weather was insane, one minute the sun was so hot you felt like you were on fire, and the next it would cloud over and drizzle rain with an icy wind. But any weather was better than last year's mudfest.

I love Meredith.

Helen Dardik is awesome!

My Place and Yours

This week I'm joining in on Pip's meme, My Place and Yours.

The lovely theme this week is the object that you would take with you, wherever you roam, that would make you feel like home.

Mine is my teddy bear, he's huge (about 60cm tall) and very huggable. I'm 25 years old and probably much too old to have a teddy, but stuff it, he's the best! And he's not like a display bear that just sits on a shelf, he gets hugged frequently.

I recently lived in NZ for work for 5 months. It started out as 3 months and then just kept being extended, and every week we'd be told, just another week.... I did have a great time, but the longer I was there, with all of my things in storage in Melbourne, the more I looked forward to returning and surrounding myself with my toys, my books, my photos and my posters. Luckily I squeezed my teddy into my suitcase (he took up about a quarter of the space!). So I had him with me the whole time and it was comforting to have a little piece of home with me in the temporary house that work rented for us.

I know it's not the stuff you own that defines you, but it sure is nice to be surrounded by all of your favourite things!

Christmas

I got a Christmas present in the mail today (thanks Mum and Dad!!) and I decided I needed a tree to put it under. So I made a little display with my favourite succulent. I'll be working this Christmas day and Boxing day... but it's nice to have a little bit of festivity around the place.

Sunday breakfast

It's a bit overcooked (oops!) but other than that this spinach and fetta omelette was delicious! The perfect breakfast in bed for a rainy Sunday morning.

I mixed three eggs with a little bit of milk, grated parmesan and butter and poured it into a pan. When it was nearly cooked, but still runny, I put some chopped english spinach and tasmanian fetta on one half of the omelette and folded the other half over the top. Then I took the omelette, along with a mug of earl grey tea and snuggled back into bed, ate breakfast and caught up on missed episodes of Rush. Including the one with the scene they filmed at the aquarium... exciting!!

What a perfect morning.....

Meet Crumpet...

He's just chilling out on his nest.

Looking pretty cute.
